Scope and Content

Binsey is a small village on the outskirts of Oxford. Although it lies on what used to be the Berkshire side of the Thames, it has long been considered part of the Liberty of Oxford. In 1979, Binsey was united with the parishes of Oxford St. Thomas and Oxford St. Frideswide.

Most of the records of Binsey were deposited with the Bodleian Library in 1980. Further deposits were made in Oxfordshire Archives in 1987, 1993, 2002 and 2007 with the respective accession numbers 2715, 3616, 3680, 4898 and 5679. Two appendices respectively give the contents of each deposit, and provide a concordance between old and new references.

Catalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith (April 1996), Chris Gilliam (June 2003), and Hannah Jones (December 2007).
