Papers of Richard Dawkins

The archive contains material connected with Dawkins' researches into the archaeology, folklore and dialects of the Greek world of the East Mediterranean. The material includes:

• correspondence of Dawkins, c. 1900-55; F.W. Hasluck is the best represented correspondent (243 items), 1907-20
• journals and notebooks, several containing travel notes, archaeological notes, as well as notes on Greek dialects and folklore
• photographs
• autobiographical notes and memoirs, 1938, 1950, n.d.
• typescripts and proofs for various published works, including Monks of Athos (London, 1936), Modern Greek folktales (Oxford, 1953), and his works on the Cypriot chronicle of Leontios Makhairas
• miscellaneous notes and lectures
• Greek manuscripts collected by Dawkins, mainly dating from the 17th to the 20th century, with a few fragments of parchment (Greek liturgy) dating from the 13th century.
