(ii) Relating to copies of volumes 1 and 2 of the School register which Finch Smith received from Mr Simms. He mentions that he has written to Mr Mayor of St John's College, Cambridge, and he intends to write to Mr Turner, Vice-Principal of Brasnose College, Oxford, who was intimate with Mr Watson, the subject of Crossley's enquiries. 5 Feb 1875.

(iii) Concerning Crossley's enquiries relating to the late John Watson, grandson of the historian of Halifax. Finch Smith had not yet heard from Mr Mayor of St John's College, Cambridge. 19 Feb 1875.
