Scope and Content

Autograph letter, signed, 5pp. 8vo, Albion Hotel.

From Bessie Rayner Parkes, daughter of Josiah Parkes (1796-1865) liberal politician. She married Louis Belloc. Friend of Barbara Bodichon.

To 'Dearest Barbara,' about reading 'The Princess' [Tennyson's poem about a women's university] and Barbara Bodichon's affection for Miss [Anna Mary, probably the 'Mary' referred to in many letters] and Mr and Mrs Howitt's suffering from 'Saunders' villainy.' [probably over ownership of the People's Journal in 1846 and failure of Howitts' own journal]. 'Priestley is ill' -- her brother? Joseph Priestley was her grandfather.
