Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Executive Council for City of Glasgow was created in 1948 to administer the relationship between the National Health Service and medical, dental and ophthalmic General Practioners. In 1974 it was replaced by Family Practitioner Committees. At its inception the Glasgow Executive Council was staffed principally by people who had worked for the Insurance Committee for the Burgh of Glasgow. Some records of the latter were handed over to the Executive Council.
