Scope and Content

Records of Thomas Bugbird & Son Ltd and various engineers, 1836-1941, comprising plans, specifications, estimates, bills of quantities and other papers relating to engineering works, 1836-1941, including Holyhead and Caernarfon harbours and Holyhead Depot, 1836-1884, sewage works, waterworks and drainage schemes in Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire and elsewhere in Wales and England, 1871-1925, and various coastal projects in Caernarfonshire, 1897-1923; correspondence with various clients, 1922-1937; lists of public works carried out by the company, [c. 1937?]; and papers relating to miscellaneous legal cases, 1874-1933.

Administrative / Biographical History

Thomas Bugbird (fl. 1859-1893) was a civil engineer. He was employed as an assistant to Robert Stephenson (1803-1859) and by the London and North Western Railway Company before settling in Caernarfon, Caernarfonshire. In 1867 he established Thomas Bugbird & Son, civil engineering contractors, with his son George F. Bugbird (fl. 1867-1924).
