John Glaister, Glasgow.

Scope and Content

Regarding Young's Macewen Oration. Glaister used to help Macewen in his early operations in dealing with knock-knee. Describes how on one occasion when Glaister was performing tracheotomy, Macewen was accidentally infected with diptheria. Macewen "like us all, suffered from defects of his character. He was without trust in anyone, except he could verify things for himself, and he was apt to utilise anyone for all he was worth, and leave him later after, like a squeezed sponge, he had got all he thought he could get."
