Administrative / Biographical History

Dolgelley (or Dolgellau) County Public Works Department were responsible for county roads, bridges and various construction projects, under the aupsices initiallly of the Court of Quarter Sessions and then, from 1881, of Merionethshire County Council (also known as Merioneth County Council). Among the county buildings were the Dolgelley County Gaol, House of Correction, Dolgelley County Hall, and various bridges.
