Scope and Content

In consideration of 200 marks, Sir Thomas and Dame Elizabeth Pope 'graunte betake demyse and to fee farme let' to Richard Ruffyn of Eynesham, Oxfordshire, yeoman, to Agnes his wife, and to Richard's heirs in perpetuity, Flemmyng Field and a coppice at its northern end, and Goldfinch or Gildmill Close, with an acre of associated arable land, and all those lands (specifically detailed) which lie in the lordship of Cogges and which were formerly in the tenure of the late William Secoll, together with all relevant deeds, reserving a yearly fee-farm rent charge of #3 13s 4d. The Popes appoint Richard Bryan and James Barfoote as their attorneys to deliver seisin. Indenture, signed and sealed by Richard Ruffyn. Contemporary endorsement states that the indenture has been enrolled in the court of common pleas. Further endorsed in a later hand: 'Cogges'. Pendant tagged red round seal with device: 'R R'.
