Samuel Cymmer Jones was born in Neath and is listed in the 1881 census as a civil and mining engineer. The firm was purchased by Jonah Arnold (c. 1892-1962, OBE and JP). The firm changed its name to Jonah Arnold and Smith between Sep and Nov 1945, when Edwin Smith was brought into the practice. The firm operated from the Great Western Chambers, Angel Street, Neath, Glamorgan, and finally ceased operating in c. 1994. The firm acted as architects to Messrs. E. E. Bevans Ltd. of the Vale of Neath Brewery, Cadoxton, Glamorgan; they also acted as estate agents for the Gnoll and Rheola Estates and saw to their winding-up and sale.
