Papers relating to John Bulloch's research on the life and work of George Jamesone (1588 - 1644), artist GB 231 MS 0690 Collection of pencil sketches of portraits by George Jamesone (1588-1644), with related material, compiled by John Bulloch.

GB 231 MS 0876 Collection of correspondence (c 165 letters) compiled by John Bulloch, 1883 - 1886, relating to his publication of Jamesone's biography, George Jamesone, the Scottish Vandyck (Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1885). Correspondents represented in the collection are chiefly owners of Jamesone's pictures, and subscribers to his biography. A name index is deposited with the collection.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Bulloch, was editor of the Aberdeen magazine, Scottish Notes and Queries(Aberdeen) and author of George Jamesone, the Scottish Vandyck (Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1885) and numerous other literary and historical pieces. His son, John Malcolm Bulloch (1867 - 1938), alumnus of the University of Aberdeen, journalist, critic, author, literary-, antiquarian- and genealogical researcher, was one of the major benefactors of the University in terms of research material; and his father, John Bulloch (1805-82), a notable Shakespearean scholar, was author of Studies on the Text of Shakespeare (London: Hamilton, Adams and Co., 1878).
