This collection would be a valuable resource to students of the Far East and China, in particular the historical development of the Chinese Customs Services during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, containing as it does transcripts of original documents not readily available elsewhere. The collection is also useful as an example of one man's approach historical research.
The collection was amassed by Stanley Wright during his lifetime and bequeathed to the University on his death in 1953.
