Padiham Industrial Co-operative Society was formed in 1869. By 1966 it had 4,642 members and grocery stores at 9 Hargrove Avenue, 81-83 Shakespeare Street, 73-75 Burnley Road, 33 Peel Street, 11 Green Lane, 2 Cross Street, 2-4 Whitefield Street, 26 Grove lane, 2 Whalley Road and 1 Fort Street. In 1968 the Society joined with Burnley Co-operative Society which in turn joined with Pendle Co-operative Society the same year. In 1971 Pendle Co-operative Society transferred its engagments to the Co-operative Retail Services.
