Administrative / Biographical History
Rawtenstall Conservative Industrial Co-operative Society was formed in 1872. By 1887 the Society had 700 members and branch stores at Crawshawbooth, Reeds Holme and Spring Terrace. In 1937 Crawshawbooth Co-operative Society transferred its engagements to Rawtenstall Society. By 1966 the Society had 4781 members and 14 grocery stores, a butchery and cooked meats store, a bread and confectionary store, a greengrocery, 3 drapery stores, a men's wear store, a footwear store and a bakery.In 1970 the Society transferred its engagments to the Co-operative Retail Services.
