This series consists of records created by Hinchliffe Mill Industrial Co-operative Society. The records include reports and balance sheets, a share certificate, and memorandums.

Administrative / Biographical History

Hinchliffe Mill Industrial Co-operative Society started out in 1870 with a loan capital of £125 and contributions from members. In 1881 a second branch store was opened at Underbank. In 1883 the Society purchased the property it carried out its business in and also the adjacent property for £1000. In 1887 a butchering department was started, however, this was abandoned 2 years later.

By 1957 the Society had 2514 members and branch stores at 117 Woodhead Road, Hinchliffe Mill; Post Office, Woodhead Road, Holmbridge; 77-79 Dunford Road, Holmfirth; 13 Victoria Street, Holmfirth; and The Village, Holme. It also had a bakery at Swan Bank, Dunford Road, Holmfirth; Plumbing and Electrical store at 79 Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth; and Painting and Decorating Store at 11 Huddersfield Road, Homfirth.

Hincliffe Mill Industrial Co-operative Society transferred its engagments to the Co-operative Retail Services in 1965.
