Administrative / Biographical History
Walsden Co-operative Society was formed in 1849. By 1934 it had 815 members and branches at Bottoms, Lane Bottoms, Coppeashouse and Rochdale Road and a coal depot at Unity Street. Expansion was limited due to its proximity to other local Co-operative Societies at Todmorden. In 1936 the Society merged with Bridge End Co-operative Society at Todmorden. In 1956 Bridgend Co-operative Society transferred its engagments to the Co-operative Retail Services.
