Hillhouse Perseverance Friendly & Industrial Co-operative Society was first registered in 1860. In 1958 it transferred its engagements to the Co-operative Retail Services. In 1957, shortly before it transferred its engagements, the Society had a membership of 3541 and had branch stores at 70 Blacker Road, Birkby; 171-179, 320 Bradford Road, Fartown; 39-41 Fartown Green Road, Fartown; 16-18 Grimscar Avenue, Birkby; 78-82 Halifax Old Road, Birkby; 137 Netheroyd Hill Road, Cowcliffe; 3 Poplar Street, Birkby; and 151 St John's Road, Birkby. They also had a footwear repairing shop at 173 Bradford Road, Huddersfield.
