Letter from Robert Owen to Henry Brougham

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Owen outlines his political views; he explains that, "Governments must now adopt decisive national measures to ensure both productive employment & education for the working classes." He predicts that the "misery of the industrious classes" will provoke a "revolution of violence." Owen hopes Brougham will intervene: "you, my Lord, are now placed in a situation that, with your talents & influence, you may induce the five Great Powers to take this subject into their grave consideration."
