Scope and Content

Manuscript letter opening with Atkins remarking of his joy n hearing of the the progress being made amongst the "enlightened and influential people of Lancashire". Continues that he would have taken the position of Secretary at the new Institute in Salford, but he has entangled himself in he affairs of his late brother-in-law and cannot leave until the end of November. If the offer remains when he has completed his duties, then he will accept the position; adds that he hopes that what is proposed will not be disagreeable to Mr Lowe (the departing Secretary), whom he regards highly as a "fellow laborer".
