Letter from Thomas Simpson to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter written from Stoke-on-Trent. Simpson indicates that he previously wrote to Owen but does not know if the letter has been received. He says that Owen should not visit a Mr Stevenson as he had intended as he is hypocritical and dishonest. Simpson says Owen would be welcome to stay with him. He also says that some people are against Owen's ideas and that an article has been written in the Pottery Paper. He says that Owen should see the editor. He concludes by saying that the reason people object to Owen establishing his system is the large outlay of capital that is required, and that in other trades he would get a more immediate return.
