Letter from Robert Owen to Alexander von Humboldt

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Owen begins the letter by informing von Humboldt that he is happy to hear that he is in good health. He follows on to state that both have lived to see many political, religious and commercial changes, but that these were only "preliminary preparations for far greater" changes that will bring about the permanent happiness of the human race.

Owen asks whether he has heard of or even personally experienced the spiritual movement that has come from the United States. Owen himself has recently had an experience that has made him a believer, and feels that politicians need to be convinced of its validity and its potential to bring happiness to their peoples.
