Manuscript letter from David and William Buchanan. David Buchanan describes the teaching methods of the lower infant school, Cape Town. He writes that, "it is called the lower infant school...because there is another infant school which is for the whites alone...ours contains blacks, whites, browns and yellows." He hopes to "see more of this world" and intends to travel "up the interior."
William Buchanan requests "new songs and books" for his infant school. He intends to send David to college - though regrets that, "in doing so I shall lose my right hand." He praises David: "no longer the little spoilt child he was fifteen months ago."
