Letter from William Pare to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter, William Pare congratulates Robert Owen on making his eighty-second year and laments that the men in power do not see the truth in Owen's views. Pare argues that time spent constructing gaols and workhouses is wasted when those in power could be creating schools, dwellings and industrial buildings calculated to make the people intelligent, prosperous and happy.
