Letter from Charles Sully to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter in which Sully tries to convince Owen to unite with Monsieur Cabet, who established a utopian community called the Icarians that left France to set up communities in America. Sully says that Owen wishes to establish townships to be governed by a code of laws, which you have prepared for that purpose.He also says Owen is trying to cause the British government to apply this plan to Ireland, and in the result of non-success you will make an application of it in Texas. Sully talks about the advantages of the Icarians and that Owen should unite with Cabet in order to further his cause.
