Letter from George Mawby to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Mawby writes of his disbelief in the "Rapping Spirits" which he read about in Owen's Manifesto. Mawby explains he disbelieves for the same reason he disbelieves in Christianity; he "cannot see any thing like justice, benevolence or wisdome [wisdom] connected with either". He thinks Owen will not get many associates to believe in "Rapping Spirits" unless he can show those things exist.
