Letter from Agnes Combe to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

This manuscript letter opens with Combe expressing her regret in not seeing Owen when he was in Leeds, [Yorkshire]. Combe tells of her personal situation recounting the misfortune which has beset her. She writes that her eldest daughter recently died aged of 20, eldest son has been unfortunate in business and she herself lost all of her own money at Orbiston [where a community was established; her husband played a key role in setting-up]. Combe explains that she now lives in Leeds and takes in boarders as a means of making a living.
