Letter from Rev. James Donne to Robert Owen (with letter from Mrs Weaver)

Scope and Content

This manuscript letter has been written on the rear of a letter sent to Donne from Ann Weaver, Robert Owen's sister. Donne writes of his pleasure of hearing of Owen returning to Europe [from America]; believes Owen should be appointed by the King in a new administration to carry out his "Utopian Schemes".

In the letter from Ann Weaver, Donne is asked to write to Owen on her behalf and request "one years allowance" from him. Weaver continues to outline her personal circumstances in some detail and writes of hearing of Owen "giving away 100 & 1000 for the good of the Country"; she hopes Owen can do something for her.
