In this manuscript letter Jones writes of his admiration of the "energy, ability and zeal" shown by Owen in his endeavours to establish Communities. Jones explains that he has long been a supporter of such ventures, and believes the attempt made to establish a Community by Mr [George] Mudie [at Orbiston] only failed due to the "bad habits, and imprudent conduct of the associates [who lived there]". Since that attempt, Jones has been of the view that Communities can only be formed from people from the middle classes. However, he notes finding little inclination from that section of society in leaving their normal life and become part of a Community.
