Letter from C.J. Haslam to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Haslam has been directed by the Manchester District Board on behalf of a society based in Stalybridge, called Ancient Foresters, to write to Owen. The Ancient Foresters have built a new hall and would like to open it with a public ceremony. They requested local clergymen to open the hall, but due to the society's socialist associations, these clerics declined the honour. The society now asks whether Owen would be able to attend the opening ceremony.
