Letter from Walter Watson to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter, in which Owen is asked his advice regaridng the validity of a scheme of emigration to Texas which Watson is considering. Watson explains, that under the scheme put forward by the Emigration and Colonization Company an individual would be expected to pay for passage to Texas from Liverpool and also to take 20 acres of land at 6 shillings per acre. Watson worries, that as it is the sole purpose of the Company to sell the land, so may it be that on arrival the emigrant may be left "destitute".
