Letter from James Rigby to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Rigby provides Owen with an account of the progress he has made with tasks carried out on Owen's behalf. This includes forwarding Owen a letter for him written in French and signed by the "United Brothers" of the "Order of London" along with a number of newspapers. The letter from the United Brothers has been translated by Rigby, and in it Owen is asked to provide some example of his autograph so they may be sold in order to raise money for charity.

Rigby explains that the Sunday League are determined to "beat the Clergy" and feels that with the backing of the press and the government are likely to succeed. He is "assisting" them, but at the same time does not wish to give the "Enemy" any hold else they will raise the old "Goblin of Socialism".
