Letter from [Charles] Poulett Thomson to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Thomson informs Owen that he will not be able to receive a deputation, representing the Universal Community Society of Rational Religionists, but is happy to receive any communication on the subject that was alluded to in a previous note sent by Owen.

Accompanying Thomson's note is a copy of Owen's response to the note, dated 3 August, stating that Owen will comply with his wishes and will submit in writing to him the measures that must be considered and instituted in order to the relieve the suffering of the "industrious classes." He will also instruct the deputation, now in London, to forward documentation to Thomson that "will prepare the way for the most easy comprehension of the whole subject," which he hopes will be placed before the Government.
