Letter from Edward Welch to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter of introduction for Owen to Chantrel. Welch explains that along with his partner [Joseph Hansom] they are endeavouring to "organize the great working mass of builders in the Kingdom to place them in a permanent position of comfort and happiness". Chantrel, an architect in Leeds, is asked for his assistance with their plans.

Annotated in pencil on the rear and signed WP [William Pare] it is noted that this letter should come early in any work done on the subject of Trades Unions and Owen's part in it.
