Letter from John P. Adams to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter, in which Owen is invited to a gathering being held at the Hall of Science, City Road [London] on the evening of Monday 17 November 1851. The gathering has been prompted by the success of a number of large summer meetings in the eastern part of London, particularly in Victoria Park. Adams informs Owen that these gatherings were organised with "the express purpose of openly avowing and disseminating the principle to which you [Owen] have devoted the greater part of your life". The event on the 17th will be formed of a "Social Tea Party and Entertainment", and amongst those present will be W.D. Saull, James Watson and G.J. Holyoake.
