Letter from Hugh Doherty to Mrs Wheeler

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Doherty outlines the hopes and aspirations for the revolutionists in France. He writes of being in the Palace of Thuileries, shortly after Louis Phillippe left, spending the day writing out proclamations of the Republic; explains that that the "Republic is universally accepted now, and the only difficulty is the social question. The privileged classes have swallowed the pill of political change".

Present with the letter is a small tricolor which Doherty explains he wore "in the first struggle".
