Letter from Robert Owen to Archibald Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton

Scope and Content

Manuscript copy (and draft copy) of a challenge which Owen wished to be made at each day of the Eglinton Tournamant which the the Earl had arranged for dignitaries and gentlemen from Britain and beyond.

The challenge states that Robert Owen will prove at any time within one year in the court of Queen Victoria, that the affairs of the World have been based on "false principles" and that Owen has discovered the principles on which the World should instead be governed.
