Letter from Ernest Jones to Robert Owen

Archive Unit

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter, in which Jones asks Owen for help in paying a debt of £11. If Jones does not pay the debt he is faced with being arrested and jailed. Jones explains the threat of jail is particularly acute currently, as he is enjoying "great success" with his newspaper The London News which, he reports, is selling 15,000 copies per week.

If Owen requires further persuasion before helping, Jones puts forward [George Jacob] Holyoake as person able to convince that it will not be money "thrown away".
