Manuscript letter, in which Whitwell explains he left Paris some 10 days previous, but before he did he met several times with [Jules] Gay and his friends. He reports that Gay and his Association were anxious to have Owen present at their first meeting. He also notes finding a letter from Gay and has translated it here for Owen's benefit.
In Gay's letter to Whitwell, he remarks he regrets that Owen could not attend his Association's meetings and feeling anxious having not heard news of Owen's health. Gay also notes the first intention of his Association is to produce a weekly publication which will contain themes of politics, philosophy and science; he remarks that he is able to call on a large number [of people] to support him.
