Letter from Alex Dickson to Robert Owen

Administrative / Biographical History

This manuscript letter opens with discussion of a course of lectures being given [in Maidstone] by a "Babtist preacher" as an "antidote" to ones given by Owen; Dickson did not hear the lectures himself, but was informed that they were a "sorry exhibition" with the audience being forced to listen to all the "thread bare" arguments that have advanced from the pulpit for the "previous hundred years".

Details of the progress of the [Owenite] group are noted; a meeting being held at which three new members were added taking the number up to 16, with a further 3 who attended expected to join soon; expect to soon have enough to form a "Charter".

The letter continues with informal chat regarding a number of individuals.
