Mrs Mary Mondet, née Dunn, was Thomas Barnes' "companion"; Barnes never married, but Mrs. Mondet "did the honors of his household." She was "treated with remarkable respect by society, often being referred to as Mrs Barnes. Though blessed neither with children or by the church they lived happily together for over twenty years, and Barnes in his will left her all his property." (Source: G. Phillips, "Thomas Barnes," Oxford Dictionary of National Biography')
