Letter from Thomas Middleton to Robert Owen

Manuscript letter opening with a long eulogy to Owen and his life's work.

Discussion turns to Middleton's own life: he was born in Bermondsey where is father ran the business of a "woolstapler", and afte his parents died he moved to America in 1842 with is wife and nephew (who they adopted). Whist in America he became aware of Owen's work and became particularly interested in the adverse reaction from people of religion who considered him to be the "Devil".
