Letter from Henry Travis to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Travis makes reference to the work of the renowned "American medium" [Daniel Douglas] Home. It is clear that Home has made a "great impression" on Mr and Mrs Cox, but Travis is sceptical and believes for any credibility to be gained these "wonders" must be produced in daylight and "above board", rather than in the dark, under tables if they are to have any credibility.

Travis tells of attending 2 "unsatisfactory" lectures delivered by Unitarian Ministers at the John Street Institute, [London]. he asks "how could they be otherwise?".
