Letter from Read Holliday to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter: Holliday is desired by friends to request if Owen would visit Huddersfield in order to give a number of lectures. Holliday informs Owen that many are against Owen's views, in particular [Rev. John] Brindley who has spoken out against Owen and has issued a challenge for Owenites to defend their "system." Holliday and his friends see it as their duty to defend Owen and make him aware of the situation.

Holliday continues by informing Owen of Brindley's intentions, which includes visiting New Lanark, and issuing petitions.
