Letter from Henry Price to Robert Owen

Archive Unit

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter carrying news of events in Paris. Price informs Owen of Monsieur Corbon's request for Owen's attendance before the Government Commission for the Workmen on the coming Friday. It would appear Owen is unable to make the appointment as Price notes that M. Goupy will attend and explain Owen's absence.

Owen's proclamation was posted all over town producing "very great effect", with Price noting eleven persons reading one particular copy and explaining that more than 50 applications for copies have been made to the printers (it being too long to transcribe). Price also notes that it is commonly thought the best means by which Owen can get his "subject" [Rational System] before the public is by establishing a newspaper; Owen is requested to turn his attention to providing a printing press for this purpose.
