Jules Leopold Gay was born in Paris on 2nd August 1809. He was a follower of Owen and advocated social and sexual equality. In London Jules met the Socialist Desiree Veret and married her in 1834. Jules published the Communist and was a founding member of the International Alliance for a Socialist Society. He published several erotic novels and consequently had his publishing license revoked. Gay died in 1883.
