Letter from John Ellis to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter inquiring as to Owen's current views on religion. The question is raised in light of recent comments by a Mr Campbell from America, when stated during a lecture at John Street Institute, [London] of seeing Owen, and heard him speak " of God in such a manner as to induce that your [Owen's] religious views were much altered"; Owen asked if this is true, and if so "to make known to them [Owen's followers] the truths which have produced the change" in his views; if not the case, Owen is should make it known he is "still the Rob[er]t Owen whose doctrines we have propagated".

Edwards requests Owen to visit the school he obtained on a 20 year lease since last seeing Owen to "give a few words".
