Letter from James Rigby to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter, in which Rigby informs Owen of the latest developments regarding the Panorama [depicting a model village] which is currently exhibiting at St. Martin's Hall [London]. That morning a much better meeting has gone ahead with more money being made than at any previous meeting. Meanwhile, Atkins has been to see Lord Palmerston and gained his Lordship's consent to attend a private exhibition, and if approving will recommend it to her Majesty [Queen Victoria]. However, Rigby doubts that Atkins is the right man to seize such a chance which is presenting itself to him as he is "impulsive and destroys the end he has in view"; a professional lecturer is being sought to take Atkins place.
