Letter from Henry Price to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

This manuscript letter opens with discussion of Owen's absence from a meeting of the Committee of Workmen due to him being in England. Price explains that Owen will be able to put forward his "[Rational] System" on his return [to Paris].Following detailed discussion of recent events in Paris, it is then put to Owen that his best method of explaining his System is through establishing a newspaper; only then will he be able to "act upon the public mind". Price lays out in detail the expected cost of producing a new weekly paper to be titled La Veritè.

The letter closes with Price noting that the election of Louis Napoleon created "great surprise" and "everybody complains", it now seems that nobody can agree anything "except in doing everything to throw obstacles in the way of the Republic".
