Letter from William Muir to Robert Owen

Scope and Content

In this manuscript letter Muir writes that due to a lack of response from Owen he will presume that he has declined the "challenge" of public discussions. The "challenge" which was to be put to Socialists, and Owen in particular, was twofold, firstly "that the system of the Socialists is totally atheistical" and secondly that "Atheism is incredible and an absurdity".

Enclosed is a printed notice announcing the 'Challenge to the 'Socialists', and in particular the "notorious" Robert Owen, along with a printed copy of the manuscript letter detailed above.
