Discussion turns to poetry, with Cooke writing that he has recently read 'The Poetry of Life' an article published by Chamber's Edinburgh Journal; remarks that it is well written and pleasing to "those who cannot go any deeper than surface thought. , but to those who think more deeply, it is like much of the literature of the day in using "childish language"; encloses a copy of a letter he has written to Robert Chambers offering his opinions on 'The Poetry of Life'.
